I apologize for the lack of updates but I will get back to speed during this week. Anyway, the first thing I wanted to review for a while is the movie Kick-ass which is directed by Matthew Vaughn and released in April 16, 2010. As a movie that is based on another batch of super-heroes, is this movie worth the admission or does it suck ass?

Firstly, the movie Kick-ass revolves around two main characters, which includes the teenage character called Dave and another mysterious girl called Hit-Girl. Since I don’t want to spoil anything, the basic premise of the story is about Dave wanting to become a superhero but realizing that it is not as simple as it is in the comic books. Nevertheless, he still tries by creating his own costume from a scuba diving gear and carrying what appears to be batons. Throughout his journey, there will be a lot of different comedic, gory, weird and sad surprises.

With that said, it is really hard to review this movie without giving out too much. But I can say with certainty that this movie hooked me through the 117 minutes of the movie. Although there are times that it can be predictable and unbelievable that they pulled that thing off or say those lines, it can be easily forgiven. As well, they do not pull any punches when coming to making fun of other super-hero movies, particularly Spider-man and Batman. If you watched those movies as well, you will get enjoyment out of the spoofs they make from certain lines and scenes from those movies.

Character-wise, I say that Dave do have a depth to his dimension since he narrates a large portion of the film but most of the stuff that he does or say is pretty stereotypical and generic as the ‘loser’ kind of teenager. But I guess that is what it makes people relate to it and find it funny. As for the other characters, they have their own charm and uniqueness but they do not appear enough to develop a close link to them, even for Hit-Girl.-

I can keep going on about this movie but as you can see from my review, it sounds to be an average to above-average movie that will entertain you for the whole length of the film. Since it doesn’t have deep morals or tackle issues of human nature, Kick-ass is purely for shutting off your brain for almost 2 hours and just go along for the ride. To that end, I recommend Kick-ass to anyone who loves superheroes and just want to escape for a period of time. But for those of you looking for a deeper meaning or do not really like gore, I would say stay away from it.
